I used different color stitch markers to help remember repeats if there is more then one type of stitches in them. Then mark the next side the same way so I know when a repeat is coming up. It takes a few more minutes to do each side or round but it is worth it. much easier then trying to recount or remember if that was an Hdc or Triple stitch.

This! I wish I did this earlier in my crochet life for sure. Especially with mosaic crochet, I place a marker at the beginning and end of each repeat. It helps a lot.

If you have started a project and know you're going to put it down for a time I use a stitch marker that matches the color of the crochet hook handle that I used and if possible write the millimeter number on that stitch marker as a second reminder so I know what hook I used when I go to start it again.
